The Bronx Zoo is a great place to bring your children, come as a couple, or explore in groups friends. Regardless of the occasion, elated faces are bound to be plentiful. The Bronx Zoo offers more attractions than you could possibly get to in a single day. Here are some must-see exhibits.
With the standard admission fee you are admitted into the main attractions such as: Tiger Mountain, Madagascar, Jungle World, and The African Plains just to name a few. Although there are many attractions to enjoy at The Bronx Zoo that are part of the general admission, there are other exhibits and rides that are well worth the extra admission price. The Wild Asia Monorail is a compelling journey through forty acres of land filled with the most intriguing wildlife the world has to offer. The ride lasts approximately twenty minutes and you will encounter: Asian elephants, Asian rhinoceros, red pandas, peacocks, tigers, Asian deer, and many other animals you would find in the respective region. At the price of four dollars, this attraction is certainly worth a look.
The Congo Gorilla Forest is another exhibit that is definitely worth the extra cash. For three dollars you are able to gain access to over 6.5 acres of man-made rainforest where gorillas roam free. The large viewing area allows you to get a clear glimpse into the lives of more than twenty western low-land gorillas. In addition to looking at the many gorillas, you can move on into the different chambers within the exhibit such as: the python camera room, where you see yourself the way a python sees you, through an infrared camera, watch “Saving Africa’s Forests” which is an eight minute film showing the destruction of forests and how an effort to save them must be an initiative, and even an area where you get to decide which species your three dollar admission fee is sent to help.
The Butterfly Garden is yet another attraction that has a separate admission fee at the price of three dollars, but it is arguably the most beautiful exhibit that The Bronx Zoo has to offer, not to mention the most educational. Populated with monarch butterflies and various flowers that are found in the New York area, you are bombarded by fragrant flowery sensations and the fluttering array of many butterflies. In addition, you are able to learn about the lifecycles of various flying insects such as: dragonflies and swallowtails. As you move along you learn how butterflies affect the ecosystem, and how their presence is a necessity to the environment. There is also an interesting station that allows pictures of your children to be transformed into bumblebees, midge flies, and other flying insects.
While the attractions included in the general admission ticket are fascinating, the attractions that cost an additional fee are simply phenomenal and should not be missed.
