The Bronx Zoo is one of the best zoos in the world. With enough exhibits and attractions to provide a day’s worth of fun and adventure, it is easy to see why it is one of the more popular destinations for tourists and native New Yorkers alike. The zoo is open all year, and while it is a fantastic experience regardless of the time of year, around the time of Halloween is when The Bronx Zoo rises to a new level of excitement.
A swift autumn chill blows through the land, leaves twirl and crackle in their disdainful pleasure, and with the patterns of Halloween approaching further, The Bronx Zoo has plenty in store for expectant visitors. From October 10 through November 1, you have adequate time to enjoy the seasonal changes set forth by the zoo. One of the perks that parents may notice is that any child wearing a wildlife costume is admitted free when an accompanying adult pays full-price. Upon entering the zoo, aside from the exhibits and attractions that are open all year, you can take part in the attractions that are specifically aimed toward a Halloween audience.
The Haunted Safari is a harrowing adventure that takes place through a bat cave, belly of a snake, and even a rainforest swamp, as you try and locate a lost species. Each room has a theme that really gets you in the mood to hunt down this species of unknown origin, and the setting really helps you lose yourself in your search. What makes the journey especially exciting is the spooky atmosphere that is present throughout, making for a truly memorable experience. Although surprisingly lengthy in duration, it is one of the best attractions that The Bronx Zoo has to offer during the Halloween time.
The Hay Maze is also a great attraction, and as you navigate the hay-filled labyrinth, you will see how complex and imaginative the maze really is. Completion of the maze makes for a great story, and fills all who exit with a sense of accomplishment.
Another interesting attraction is The Scarecrow Hayride. Musically themed, the hayride takes you around a set course that is quite scenic, but you are also serenaded with music as you ride. Take part in the festivities or sit back and enjoy the music; the hayride is a wonderful time either way.
There are also live performances throughout the zoo, but most notable is the pumpkin carving demonstration. The artisan carves pumpkins into various animal shapes, and all are amazingly detailed.
During Halloween you crave entertainment, thrills, and certainly feelings of fright. While you may not be scarred for life when visiting the Halloween attractions at The Bronx Zoo, your need for spooky adventures and wonderful entertainment will be thoroughly fulfilled.
